Future In Mind was established in 2000. We provide a residential service to young people with emotional and behavioural problems, many of whom will have experienced some form of abuse or trauma. In particular in depth attachment therapy is offered and this therapy informs all day to day living experiences for the young people accommodated.
Young people are engaged in specialist programmes whilst they are living with us which will enable them to repair the past whilst preparing their future, with a positive change in their behaviours. A primary objective is to equip young people to move on, either by a return to their family home, to foster parents, to independent living or to an alternative residential provision. Length of stay is dependent on individual need as identified in the Therapeutic Assessment received by all young people which clearly identifies the areas requiring intensive therapeutic input, the techniques to be used and an estimated timescale for completion of the work.
Residential staff work closely with, and receive training from, the Director of Therapy in order to provide a living experience for young people which supports individual programmes of therapeutic intervention. Residential Therapeutic Support Workers play an active part in ensuring the care received by young people 24hrs a day provides a therapeutic setting for young people in all that they do. Staff are trained in "therapeutic activities" and an approach to work with young people which enhances the individual therapy provided by our in-house qualified therapists.
Formal therapy sessions take place within the young person's residential provision and is viewed by young people as a "normal" part of life at Future In Mind.
Therapy and therapeutic activities can take place at any time of the day and in any situation e.g. Therapeutic Support Workers may read therapeutic stories to young people whilst the young person is in bed and settling for the night, Therapists may work in any area of the home which is appropriate for the specific therapeutic technique they are implementing and the mood and wishes of the young person.
