Therapeutic techniques

Therapeutic Programmes

Young people's Therapeutic Programmes will use a combination of our therapies, as advised by the Director of Therapy. Over the course of the programme they will be used to address areas identified in the Therapeutic Assessment.

1-1 "therapy sessions" form part of the programme and address the more traumatic and significant events of the young peoples histories. The nature of the therapeutic homes and training received by all staff ensure that the young people receive the appropriate therapeutic input during their day to day living experience.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP incorporates the use of the senses, emotions and the concept of time. All of which can have a positive impact for any child that has been traumatised. The therapeutic use of words and language can assist changes at a neurological level.
Anger Management Exercises
All staff receive training in the use of these techniques which assist the young person to release anger in a controlled and safe manner. They support the more advanced therapy work of the qualified therapists and form the first stage in our Attachment Programme.

Attachment Therapy

We offer a 7 stage structured Attachment programme aimed to give The young people the "building blocks" in life which they have missed in their early years.
The young people will progress through our 7 stage attachment programme while being given the opportunity to fully experience each of the stages. The 7 stages are as follows:

  • Dissolving the aggression barrier
  • Developing trust and safety
  • Nurture
  • Body awareness
  • Challenge
  • Attunement
  • Communication

Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT)

The NMT provide an assessment of important development experiences good, bad and a current "picture" of brain organisation and functioning. Through a thorough personal history we can Identify the areas of the brain that require stimulation, this will determine what Therapeutic activities and techniques will be required.

Balemetrics

These are specialised activities proven to help areas of the brain. It addresses brain processing problems at the source. By engaging in sensory integration therapies excellent positive results can be achieved.

Relaxation and Visualisation Techniques

Staff will assist the child to relax their mind and body and to expand their visual representations of "the problem" and give them the ability to internally problem solve. All staff are trained in the use of healing stories at bedtime which, in a very gentle way, help to aid the healing process.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

EFT uses the natural energy channels of the body which, by applying gentle pressure can desensitise traumatic memories, release feelings of guilt, confusion, anger and helplessness. These feelings can then be replaced with confidence, self esteem and a positive direction for the future.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR utilizes the body's natural healing ability and allows the brain to heal psychological problems such as sexual abuse, childhood neglect, road traffic accidents and violence. Because EMDR allows the mind and body to heal at the same rate, treatment can be rapid.
